With planning underway for the upcoming War of 1812 bicentennial, collaboration among Maryland stakeholders is essential. To stimulate partnerships, the Maryland War of 1812 Bicentennial Commission is presenting a series of conferences to familiarize stakeholders with the many sites, stories, and organizations related to the War of 1812 in Maryland. A conference has already been held in Southern Maryland and the remaining seminars will take place at the head of Bay, on the Eastern Shore, at North Point and in Baltimore over the next year.

Join us on September 24th in Prince George’s County!

The day will begin at the Riversdale House Museum in Riverdale. Here attendees will learn about plans for the Maryland War of 1812 bicentennial. Noted Maryland War of 1812 historian, Dr. Ralph Eshelman, will discuss the war in Prince George’s County. A Fort McHenry National Park Service ranger will address the Battle of Bladensburg. Attendees will then be transported to Bostwick, a historic house used by a British prisoner-of-war agent during the War. The next stop will be the Bladensburg Waterfront Park for lunch, a tour of the site where the British crossed the Anacostia River during the Battle of Bladensburg, and a presentation on the State Highway Administration’s Bladensburg Archeology Project. The final stop will be Mount Calvert, the spot where a detachment of British sailors landed to join the invading British Army during their march to Bladensburg and Washington D.C.
